Prayers Are God's Way of Saying "I'M LISTENING..."

Ahhh, prayers! Thank you God for allowing me to "be me" with you! Such a captivating word when you really listen to it spoken... After all, it's talking to God - having a conversation. He's listening. Giving thanks while on our knees is never out of the plan in expressing sincere gratitude and showing reverence to Jesus, The Lord God. I'd rather be on my knees giving thanks and praise than flat on my face because I thought I was "above" praying to Him. When I try to plan my own way, believe me - I never get it right without a kink poping up somewhere. But when I discuss my intention or plans with God and tell Him how I feel or express my special requests to Him I keep in mind that it's by HIS will I must trust. Simple and humble prayer is what I've learned fits me best. Trying to make an extremly holy, wordy, encyclopedia type prayer usually winds up where in the end I lost track of my whole point. Besides, trying to impress God with words for the sake of "praying" just won't cut it. What's it worth anyway?

God knows us for who we are and what we are. God is our Father - our Dad. So, when we pray we are having a conversation with our Dad. Believe me, when I pray I TALK to God - as I do here. He knows each and every aspect of every human being. He knows our heart - talk to Him from it... that's where the true roots of prayer are planted... in the heart.

CHILDREN AND PRAYERS - CHRISTIAN KEYS TO STARTING THEM OFF YOUNG!

If you have small children and you aren't already doing so - tell them you'd like to share morning prayers with them. Get involved! This can be done during breakfast, on the drive to school or summer camp, (even during a cartoon commercial - trust me - I've done it with my own son). Ask them if they would like to be the leader today. Usually a child will be delighted to be "first". If they're shy about it - you take the reigns. They'll eventually feel comfortable after hearing Mom and/or Dad a few times.

When my son talks to Jesus I smile within - he is so innocent and his requests are so simple yet right to the heart of the matter. I imagine what it must be like for Jesus to hear the innocent conversation of children. Their little voices ringing through heaven like church bells on a pristine day. Children speak innocently making their own simple requests and asking for special blessings for the things important to them - as individuals.

Training children to be confident in their prayer time will prompt their curiosity as time goes on to read about the Jesus Lord God they talk to! Teaching a youngster to be grateful in prayer will deliver enormous blessings through out their lives. Not only will they love the fact that Mom and/or Dad began the day with them as a family, they will have set the day in the Lords hands. I've practiced this technique with my son and still do so to this day (he is 11 years old). We do prayer time together every morning and every night. (I still do some more of own in my quite time during the course of the day as well). Instill in them when they are young and trust that your Christian parental guidence will stay with them into adulthood!

Above all, Jesus taught us EXACTLY how to pray in Luke 11:2-4 which references the Lord's Prayer.
